Hey hi ho! It’s been so long but here we are, both in the same place after all this time. I’ve got a
coffee wine in hand and I’m excited to tell you all about what’s been going on at this end.
I haven’t written in so long because I’ve been so so busy shaking it up in the career department, it literally consumed me. About a year ago I decided I wanted to be a UX designer but because of the situation we were in… ya know travelling Australia and all that, I didn’t think I’d get my dream career on track until we eventually decided to head back home to the UK. However, about 6 months ago Jim and I got granted sponsorship here in Australia through Jim’s job. The government have told us that we’re cool to hang here for another 4 years!! This was of course an amazing opportunity but also quite scary, like wtf wasn’t expecting that to happen. Initially we came here with the intention of moving on after 3 months. We wanted travel Australia for a year and then go and travel Asia for a year but a year and a half since we made the big move and we’re still in Melbourne, our first stop. The difference is, now we don’t just own a suitcase but a sofa, a washing machine, a bed, pots, pans… basically everything you need to furnish an apartment. It’s mad! Anyway, after a few weeks of deliberating whether we wanted to stick around or crack on with our travels, we decided to stay in Melbourne for a wee while longer. We don’t know for how much longer, we always say no plan is the best plan and it’s worked for us so far so why change the habit of a lifetime 🤷🏻♀. SO, when we decided we were going to stay I got straight at it and eventually managed to land a job as a UX Designer, YAY! I’m really enjoying it and I’m learning so much too, it’s great. The people are really lovely AND I’m surrounded by dogs on a daily basis. Can’t really ask for much more can ya?
In hindsight we were super naive to think that the plan we had was actually going to pan out. I hadn’t been to Australia in my bloody life and neither had Jim so how the hell did we know we’d want to move on after 3 months. Cute, but the organised life doesn’t suit us. Kinda wish it did sometimes but it really doesn’t. If I was to give advice to anyone who is planning on going travelling and doesn’t have a flight booked home already (or even if you do have a flight home) I’d say don’t plan everything. Life happens and although you might think you want to do X Y and Z now, that might all change when you actually experience X Y or Z.
Even when we decide we are going to leave Melbourne I don’t think I’ll ever be ready to. It’s crazy how time flies and how opportunities that you just can’t say no to pop up. We’re still going to do all of the above, travel all of Australia and Asia etc but the way in which we do it might be different now. We’ve already managed to see a lot of Australia just by going on holidays and using Melbourne as a base so who knows how or when we’ll see the rest, I’m not committing to any plans anymore.
So, in a nutshell, that’s why there’s been radio silence from this end. I’ve missed writing though, it’s what I love to do so hopefully it won’t be a year ’til my next post. lol.
